Great service and a very welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious and paired perfectly with their wide selection of sake — from classic dry styles to more modern options. You can tell this is a place locals love to go, not a touristy spot. We were lucky to visit on a Wednesday when they had half-price sake, which made the experience even better. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys good food and quality sake.

Thank you for a delicious meal and your kind hospitality. This is a lovely little restaurant that locals seem to love too. They had an English menu for us and we enjoyed every bite.

My first dinner at Kyoto. Fresh ingredients, good service and a cozy place. Must try their Assorted Obanzai( local home-made dishes.

We came across this place randomly but were so happy that we decided to come in! Everyone was very friendly and helpful and they did their best to help us in English, which was very kind (as we tried to do it in Japanese but were not so great at it haha). The food tasted great as well, just like the local sake. Really amazing how they manage to run it with just the two of them, even when it got busier. Can definitely recommend if you want a nice, quick and delicious bite and/or drink!

This place was an absolute highlight of our time in Kyoto!!!! Great English menu too. The Eggplant udon was to die for and the tempura was so crispy and light. For 4,500¥ we got loads of delicious food and hot sake, and I may have to come back before we leave the city as this place cannot be beat. Thank you Mendokoro Koan Gosho for the ultimate Japanese dinner that we will remember forever!!

Delicious Udon Restaurant. Mostly locals because of its accessibility. Must try the eggplant and beef! Would avoid the dried firefly squid if you don’t appreciate the delicacy.

Very good local restaurant, we tried the duck udon which tasted amazing for a really fair price. The service was really good, the waitress spoke really good English and was really nice, we even got free edamame and hot tea.
